Woman & Great Dane Rescued From House Fire

Jump to:

CFD pulled a woman and her dog out of a burning home in East Brainerd Thursday night.

It happened around 8:20 PM in the 1400 block of Mari Jon Drive.

Quint 21 was first on the scene and spotted smoke in the windows.

Crews made entry into the home and no flames were visible.

They could hear the resident yelling from a back bedroom, but firefighters had to navigate through thick, black smoke to get to her.

They located the woman and carried her and her pet, a Great Dane, outside to safety and then extinguished the fire in the central part of the house.

The victim was transported to the hospital with smoke inhalation.

McKamey Animal Center is caring for her dog.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. Multiple CFD units were on scene, along with CPD and HCEMS.

The resident indicated that someone else was possibly trapped inside the house, but firefighters conducted several searches and no one else was found. Officials believe the resident was referring to her dog and asking first responders to make sure her pet was safe.

The home sustained extensive smoke damage as well as damage from the fire. Crews on scene were told that the woman had just moved in.
