Worker Injured at UTC Construction Site

A construction worker was on a 12-foot ladder on the 4th floor of the new library when he accidentally fell approximately 12 feet to the base of the ladder. UTC security personnel arrived quickly on the scene and was concerned about how to move the victim, so they called for the Chattanooga Fire Department.

Tactical Services Chief Danny Hague said several options were considered for getting the victim down to ground level, including setting up a ladder rescue. However, the firefighters determined that they would simply strap the victim in a Stokes rescue basket and carry him down the four flights of stairs.

The victim was handed off to paramedics with Hamilton County EMS, who in turn transported him to a local hospital. EMS personnel told firefighters that the victim was concious and stable and did not appear to have life-threatening injuries.
